Where is Bédoin?

Bédoin (postcode 84410) lies in the Vaucluse department, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, at the foot of Mont Ventoux. The village is about fifteen kilometres from Carpentras and around forty from Avignon. It is surrounded by a typically Provençal landscape: the Ventoux forest, vineyards, olive trees and cherry orchards.

A little history

Like much of the region, Bédoin long belonged to the Comtat Venaissin, a papal possession until the French Revolution. The village still bears the marks of an ancient past, with its historic core and narrow streets.

Bédoin went through a striking episode during the Revolution: in 1794, at the time of the Terror, the village was harshly repressed and largely burned down. Rebuilt afterwards, it has regained the peaceful life we know today.

Heritage and the village today

The old hilltop village is worth wandering through, along its lanes up to its Baroque-style church. Bédoin is today a lively village: shops, restaurants, a Provençal market on Monday mornings, and a strong farming tradition (cherries, olive oil, wines). It is also a must-stop for cyclists from all over the world.
