Mont Ventoux: what to see at the summit (sunrise and sunset)

360° panoramas, a lunar landscape and the finest moments at the summit of the Giant of Provence.

Rising to 1,910 m, Mont Ventoux offers one of the most beautiful panoramas in Provence. Beyond the climb itself, the summit is worth the trip for its unique landscapes and light, especially at sunrise and sunset. Here's what to see once you're up there.

At the summit: panoramas and lunar landscape

The final kilometres cross a famous mineral, almost lunar landscape that makes the Ventoux's reputation. At the top, the view stretches 360°: Provence, the Alps and, on a clear day, all the way to the Mediterranean.

  • The panorama and the orientation tables.
  • The famous tower/antenna crowning the summit.
  • The Tom Simpson memorial, honouring the cyclist, just before the top.
  • The Sainte-Croix chapel, right at the summit.

Sunrise and sunset

Watching the sunrise or sunset from the Ventoux is an unforgettable experience: golden light, immense shadows and sometimes a sea of clouds above the valley. Staying in Bédoin, at the foot of the mountain, lets you set off early in the morning or come down in the evening without a long drive.

Practical tips

  • Wrap up warm: it is far colder and windier at the summit than at the bottom, even in summer.
  • Check the weather and visibility before going up (fog is common).
  • For sunrise, bring a torch, warm clothes and take care on the road at night.
  • Check the access conditions for the summit road, sometimes closed (snow, wind, season, night): see the summit access conditions (Ventoux Provence).
