Bédoin, the legendary start of the Ventoux climb

The most famous ascent of Mont Ventoux, ridden by the Tour de France, starts from Bédoin. The village lives to the rhythm of cycling for much of the year: you'll meet amateur riders and enthusiasts from all over the world come to conquer the “Giant of Provence”.

The climb from Bédoin in numbers

About 21 km of climbing, nearly 1,600 m of elevation gain, for an average gradient of around 7.5%. The hardest part is after Saint-Estève, through the long forest section, before the lunar landscape of the final kilometres up to the summit (1,910 m).

The three routes up the Ventoux

The summit can be reached by three roads: Bédoin (the most iconic), Malaucène (the north side) and Sault (the longest but the gentlest). The most seasoned riders sometimes attempt “Les Cinglés du Ventoux”: all three climbs in a single day. Staying in Bédoin lets you vary your routes and explore the region easily.
